Sadly, every attempt I'm aware of to explain even parts of this to Brexit enthusiasts is dismissed (without evidence, naturally) either as scaremongering or on the even more mindbogglingly complacent grounds that "they wouldn't let that sort of thing happen". (With no explanation available for who "they" are, or what steps they might be taking to prevent "that sort of thing".)
