Except, passports don't bear titles. At least, British ones don't, and given the necessary international standards, I'd be surprised if many others did.
I'm someone else who hates being addressed by name. Given my problems with finding an acceptable title, it's not fun.
And I too don't understand why a free-text title field is any more open to abuse than a free-text name field.
