The next time someone, on learning that I am basically unable to perform any significant amount of manual labour (including carrying heavy stuff, where heavy means 'more than a couple of kilos' for any worthwhile distance, as well as things like - to use a non-random example - helping [livejournal.com profile] stripey_cat dig the allotment), or to perform most types of office-type work for more than a couple of hours a day, and that only if I'm very careful and split the work up into 15 minutes chunks scattered over a 12 hour working day says something like "that must be nice" or "that sounds very convenient", I'll... well, not hit them, because that would probably hurt me more than them, but I might well explain at great length precisely why it is neither nice nor convenient.

On a separate note, thanks and *hugs* to all those who left comments on my last entry; they're much appreciated (and I would reply individually, but my arms are being particularly bad at present, and one dictated-through-the-magic-of-speech-recognition general reply saves me a lot of clicking...).

That sort of comment sounds really stupid.

What kind of fuckwit says that?! *boggles* "Well you can have it instead of me then fuckwit!" seems a proportionate reply ...

Ooh, I know those people! They're the ones who say, when I explain I have ME otherwise known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, "oh, yes, I get tired a lot too." Or as you say, think it must be "nice" to "rest a lot". KILL.

Generally the ones who've just commented on the gender-role reversal with me doing the heavy work. They tend to be the ones who look at me like I've grown an extra head when I say I enjoy manual labour. Interestingly, when I say early-onset arthritis they tend to look mildly aghast, rather than making smart comments - his attempts to explain in more accurate detail are the ones that pull silly replies. This goes with my impression that quite often they seem to be thinking he's putting it on to get out of the work, whereas most people have encountered (geriatric) arthritis and know it's nasty.
